Dell Small Business has a $50 instant rebate on the latest WD 1TB, best price on the market ever.
This is the new version of the Western Digital My Book Essential 1TB external drive. It comes with a slightly improved design and much better reliability and performance than their predecessors (v1.0).
The new My Book Essential is a USB only (ie. no eSATA) drive with such savings we’re not going to be difficult. Back a few months ago you wouldn’t find it at less than $120 and remember that this is a brand new unit, not refurbished. Therefore it comes with full warranty .
The newest WD MyBook Essential are exceptionally fast, thanks to the 7,200RPM drive with 8MB of cache, and silent.
In the box you will find:
- The external hard drive (well, of course), dimensions: 2.1″ x 5.4″ x 6.5″
- A USB cable
- The AC adapter
- Some software bundle that you may remove if you don’t like that

I’m in for 2. Already have one and a Seagate as well. I am happy with both. I didn’t like the first version of the Mybook series because they would get hot and I was always worried that I would loose all my MP3 collections
all the time. But these are really great, they don’t even run hot at all.
The overall quality, the finish of the new My Books external drives finally matches the quality of the internal WD drives. This is the cheapest 1TB of this quality I’ve ever seen! Hope my order won’t be cancel or that it’s not a price mistake or something.

This is as close to free as it can be. The cost per GB is so low that I wonder how they can make it. Not my favorite brand but at this price it’s worth it, saving at least $40 vs the best deal I’ve seen so far.

Dell just bumped the price My Book Essential 1TB price to $99
Any chance it goes back to $79? It still is a very good deal though, but the more savings the better.

Is the backup software included going to be compatible with Windows 7? I want to buy a new laptop. next months when the new Windows comes out.

Dell has switched the price again, too late for me. It’s now a fair deal, because you won’t find the WD MyBook essential for less anywhere in a trusted store on of offline. But I hope that they will get it back to $79, that was Amazing!
